The story began with the first prototypes of an electronic variometer. Fifty years later, it continues in every cockpit we equip.
It started in a garage in Celje.
In 1975, Črtomir Rojnik — a pilot and engineer — began crafting the first electric variometers in his home garage. That work made LX navigation a pioneer of glider navigation, and for fifty years we have pushed the boundaries of aviation technology with instruments that raise flight performance and safety.
Today the range spans glider computers and variometers, solutions for powered aviation, and anti-collision systems. Whether you are a seasoned pilot or just starting your gliding journey, LX navigation has the tools to take your flying to new heights.

First prototypes of the electronic variometer.
A technically complex instrument for a simple job — showing rate of climb and descent in a sailplane. It became the keystone of now-leading air navigation systems worldwide.
The first successful variometer is born: a pneumatic variometer with mechanical indicator, electro-mechanical MacCready and Speed command. Produced in low quantities and flown in Slovenian aeroclubs — the fact that some of them still work speaks for itself.

Constant improvements led to the EV 82, then the big breakthrough: an LCD screen with variometer, integrator, Speed command and OAT. The LX 100 club variometer with its 80 mm cutout instantly became a classic that is still flown today; the LX 60 packed the same functions into a smaller housing.
A highly capable instrument with the power to calculate final glide and wind, with 8 different flight modes — all processed by a micro-controller and shown on one of the first matrix numeric displays of its time.
GPS enters the cockpit.
Development continues as the sales numbers grow — more and more worldwide customers, with a presence in basically every glider cockpit.
A major milestone and instant success — our first device with an integrated GPS system and an airport & turnpoint database, designed as a merge of three units: control unit, glide computer and vario integrator, with a big custom-designed Iskra display.
A 57 mm navigation instrument for ultralights with integrated GPS receiver, database and matrix display — about 1000 sold. The LX 3000 brought micro-controller power to an older legend, the LX 1000.
A legend is born: an IGC-approved logger with all the functions of modern navigation of that era. Known for its unique design and big graphic display, it became a classic in every glider cockpit — sold in thousands, still flying around the globe.
Extended database capacity, airspace, IGC-approved flight recorder and LCD vario indicator — made in 11 improving versions: 1–7 with a 64 × 128 display, 8–9 with co-processors, 10–11 with a high-resolution 240 × 320 screen.
A great, affordable vario-navigation system, popular for its dimensions — just two 57 mm cutouts for control unit and switch indicator. The LX 1600 with its dislocated GPS receiver saved even more space as a single 57 mm instrument.

Colibri, the BUS, and Flarm.
A wooden steering unit with one main and eight additional buttons, its classic wood-and-leather design still found in many sailplanes — and the DX 50, a compact LX 5000 with plug-ins, display, LCD variometer and IGC logger that competition pilots could take out and hand to the judge.

The smallest IGC-approved flight recorder of its time, with optional keyboard and alpha-numeric display. Ahead of its era, sold in thousands — many still in use.
The GPS logger successor to the LX 20 — identical in usage and functions, but with a new housing, keyboard and different connectors, and support for various navigational applications.
The first vario-navigation system with variometer and computer as separate units connected via BUS — airspace, database and tasks shown perfectly clearly on a high-resolution display.
Embedded computing power and, for the first time ever, our own licensed anti-collision system: Flarm. The FLARM RedBox released the same year was an instant hit; Mini Box, Flarm mobile and the LX LED display followed — over 10,000 units produced and flying worldwide.

First color system — and Zeus.
The first color-display, Linux-operated GPS vario-navigation system developed and produced at LX navigation.
A high-brightness handheld in the age of unreadable PDAs — a must-have for glider pilots. The same year, built on the same platform, Mini Map pro was released for panel installation, controlled by rotary knobs and 6 buttons.

New micro-controller technology and a color display made the LX 7007 C a popular choice — everything you need in an 80 mm instrument. And Colibri II, the second Colibri, won again: a simple variometer with IGC logger in a handy housing, sold in thousands.
35 years of experience placed together in one ground-up instrument: all-new technology and coding, CAN bus connectivity, a new interface, and marked push-rotary buttons. Produced in four display sizes — 4.3″, 5.5″, 7.0″ and 8.0″ — with an 80 mm (2.8″) version a year later. An instant classic.
The world's first standalone IGC-approved flight recorder with variometer: Eos, with integrated GPS, backup battery, task and turnpoint navigation, G sensor, Flarm indicator, AHRS, Bluetooth and logbook. Beside it the club vario Helios with FLARM radar and warnings — and LX Joy, the hand-stitched leather remote.
Development continues with smart-platform devices like LX Era — WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity as the basis for cloud solutions, and a new ideology for future development.
The bird returns. Navia begins.
The stylised bird returns to the mark — flying, progress, power — as the company turns toward its next platform.
The analog six-pack, retired: a family of digital instruments for ultralight, Experimental and certified aircraft.

Half a century after the first prototype, Navia arrives — voice, spatial audio, PoE and the cloud. A new beginning.

Someone has to be first.
Fifty years of putting the technology in the cockpit before anyone else did — each one a product you can buy, not a claim about ourselves. Every one of them exists to do the same two things: make the flight safer, and give the pilot less to do.

LX 7007 pro IGC embedded a licensed FLARM collision-avoidance system inside the navigation computer instead of beside it. LX navigation has been a FLARM partner since day one and has shipped over 10,000 FLARM units.

Evolution of the logo.
It started as simple text. Then the symbol appeared — an abstract bird, a glider in flight. It disappeared for years, and returned in 2020 as the stylised bird: flying, progress, power.
